Cheers for a truly conscious and timely project pursuing the ideals of ongoing education and application of the principles of beneficial and appropriate land use, healthy local foods for citizens. What a fine example for other areas of Virginia to emulate! I am a "lifetime member" of the Roanoke co-op, even thought I no longer live in the area...I do shop there when I come to town.

Simply to be clear regarding your statement in this article to, "give the best proposal possible so we could begin to work the land from which this vibrant community will grow"... I ask if working the land includes prudently testing the soil and applying appropriate remedies, if needed and if possible; to eliminate any concern regarding the past application of detrimental pesticides that maintained the golf greens?

I am descended from John K Ferguson who came from Rocky Mount VA. It was so nice to see a Ferguson still on land there. The Ferguson line goes back to Robert Ferguson b 1636 or 40 in England and died in 1681 in York Co VA. My mother visited the area on her honeymoon. Am restoring an old hand hewn barn on my farm and thinking of the VA stories of the Dillmans and Fergusons. All the best to you.

Good Afternoon:
I am totally impressed with your garden! It is beautiful and it is remarkable in the abundant productions in a small spaces.
I have a small space and area which have terrible soil. I would love to learn from you how to grow soil so I have healthy plants.
Since I am Asian American, your variety of egg plants excited me immensely.
I hope that we can meet sometime at your garden so I can learn how from both of you.
 I am so impressed.
 Thanks for sharing.

For reference, a good educational farm in Philadelphia: http://www.millcreekurbanfarm.org/.

Also, a urban method of farming that grossed $68,000 on a half acre site in Philadelphia a few years ago: www.spinfarming.com.

City Farming everywhere: http://www.cityfarmer.info/.

To end poverty: Bella Horzionte, a large city of in Brazil, using local food methods, greatly reduced poverty with local food methods. Described in Hope's Edge book, and also in Yes! Magazine. These methods could work here, too.

Absolutely Superlative!!! There is great human/Divine love and light in this. Genious work in Roanoke!

I don't have $ to finance, but I do have hands and hand tools and love to give this project. If I can find times to help, I will joyously do so. Lemmeknow.

Thank you all so much for your hard work, I am so happy that the community has this opportunity. AND... "It is fundamental to our process that the co-op work closely with our owners, the City of Roanoke, and the Countryside neighborhood ..." Don't forget Local Growers, I am sure you won't.
Thanks

Great work! This kind of vision to action is what will help propel the city of Roanoke forward in the eyes of many and helps make for a wonderful community in which to live. I'm proud to be a part of the Co-Op!
